After 17 years building, the Gotthard tunnel is finaly ready for use. About 28 millions tones of rocks were removed from The Alps with enormous machines.
It's planned 260 freight trains to go through the tunnel daily, which would use less power and would go faster.

In this project have worked about 2600 workers and were spent 4 millions hours of work. Switzerland, also known with it's precision and accuracy, ended the project 1 year earlier.

With ending the Gotthard Tunnel, Switzerland have the first place as a country with the longest underground railway tunnel in the world.
